Swift Engineering completes BTCR demonstration.
Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, California (December 13, 2007) – Swift Engineering in conjunction with Northrop Grumman completed another Beyond LOS Tactical Communications Relay (BTCR) demonstration. Two Swift Engineering 4th generation KillerBee (KB4) TUAV’s were sequentially launched and subsequently deployed to link remote ground squads. The use of two TUAV’s under control by one Swift ground station, established a ground to air to air to ground network that extended Over-the-Horizon communication ranges.
The KB4 TUAV’s were configured in the field with a series of comm relay payloads based upon EPLRS, SecNet 11, and MeshNet capabilities. Cosite compatibility with the normal C2 and pilot situational awareness video link was maintained across the range of comm payloads, demonstrating the KB4 TUAV’s exceptional flexibility to handle multiple payload configurations tailored to mission requirements. This demonstrated the KBUAS effectiveness as a communication relay platform system keeping data, voice, and C4 capabilities connected in rugged terrain with no runway; paves the way for TUAV’s to assume another role for the warfighter.
